Dirt Muscle Car

I run a tight ship... wreck

I'm planning to bring the Bomberville into the shop this Winter and decided to firm up the drivetrain plans since it needs to run and drive first.

I'm going to do this in stages, but the plan is to take the junkyard 5.3 LM7, slap a big turbo and intercooler on it, running on 91 octane. I've been wanting to play with boost and an LS, might as well make it happen with this thing! Mate it up to a built TH400 transmission (picked up a builder) and a built up Ford 9" rear... probably 4.10 gears, spool and 35 spline shafts.

I'm planning to tear the engine down, check bearings and clearances, add head studs, open up the ring gap, upgrade the oil pump, install a turbo-friendly camshaft, stronger valve springs and put it back together with fresh gaskets. I'll need some larger, 80#/hr injectors once it's running with the turbo. Running on 91 octane, with a Holley Terminator managing air/fuel ratio, timing, etc I'm going to shoot for 800 HP at the crank. Hopefully we can get there with about 10 pounds of boost.

I'm going to get the engine running without a turbo first, but build it for boost. With all the other work and money needed to get it on the road, I'll need to do it in stages. For now I'm going to keep the IFS rather than TTB, but I want to build A-Arms that are 3" wider per side. I'll add some coilovers and air bumps. Out back, I'm planning on a pair of 36" trailing arms from Barnes, a set of coilovers and air bumps. I'll need a roll cage to mount the rear coilovers to, as well as for safety... so that'll be a big project on its own. I hoping for a ton of rear axle droop with the trailing arms, thinking 14" x 3.0 coilovers. Up front I'll probably run 12" coilovers, need to check what kind of travel I'd get though.

There will be a bunch of supporting mods as well, big fuel cell with plenty of fuel pump, mounting suspension seats, all the suspension work, etc. It's going to be a massive project up front... then the turbo can come later. I'm excited for this, with 800 HP this car will be ridiculous and stand out in a crowd. It would be fun to take it to the dragstrip once the turbo is sorted and see what kind of time it'll turn in a quarter mile!
