This truck has more potential than I gave it credit for. The floor mats and no carpet make it a bit noisy. The early turbo has a little more whistle to it. Cool if you're not on a three hour drive. The manual really makes a good truck great. Now, about those glow plugs.... it's time.

With one Jeep on the trailer, I only had to bump into 5th a few times. Impressed I am

A late model deezel would smoke this thing. It can do the speed limit in the canyons. Good enough for me

Also the steep dawg hill coming home just before Wellington. I hope I'm not in 3rd gear there but I'll be SHOCKED if I can pull it in 5th (1:1). Hoping 4th gear and 2500-2600 rpm gets me 55 mph up that hill

I am also very curious how your truck will handle that hill (which is ~20 miles outside of Wellington IIRC). Please do report back with your findings.

I am Jealous of tour Manual 7.3. I wish mine was.

It really is awesome. Just got home and filled up.

I filled in Helper Maverick. Helper to Moab (123)- Moab to Bountiful (243) = 366 miles for 10.5 mpg.

Hill out of Moab past Arches as you crest the top, topped at 63 mph. Beast Hill just before Wellington, 59 mph. F350 chassis is sweet.

Here you've got an ancient glow plug relay. 20241107_161037.jpg

Used a test light and nothing crossing with the key on. That's a good thing.
It means I've got a solid chance the relay might make a big difference. I don't think I've even tried to start the truck since Oct 19 when I got back from Moab.

Fancy fresh and new Dorman. (Not my favorite brand) I gave it a cycle and verify test light on the 2nd lug. Hit the starter and grumpy 7.3L lights off.

New relay. HUUUUGGGGEEEE difference.

(That's my presidential version)

I did add this fancy actual cupholder for those with early '99 trucks. It actually holds drinks and the slot thing will hold my Samsung S23+ vertically. I don't remember paying $70 for it like it's currently quoted. I think I was around $45 about a month ago. https://a.co/d/3c4mZoF

Was pretty handy on my trip up/back to Smithfield yesterday.

On the way back, I got stuck in one of these things again. That turned into about a 55 minute delay. That's the third freeway shutdown issue I've had since I've had the truck along with an additional traffic stop in my Buick. The truck and it's stick/clutch is a bit annoying in these places as you'd expect.

This happened just as I got up to speed from getting on the freeway in Brigham City. I was at a dead stop countless times from there until the Port of Entry. Just as I was nearing the entrance to the freeway for the big trucks from the Port of Entry, all the emergency vehicles lights shut off and traffic picked up. The incident seemed to be just at the curve where the exit is for the Flying J (I think that's 750 N?). Blocking all lanes can't be good for those involved in the incident. I haven't heard what happened but hope all are doing as well as they can be with whatever happened ahead of me on the freeway.
