I wish GM or someone would import the Jimnys and slap their badge on it like Chevy did with the Tracker. There is probably some chicken tax out there keeping it from happening though. Call it a tall car vs a light truck ;)
I fully believe Suzuki won't do it because of FCA. After the falsified consumer reports in the 90's that essentially killed the samurai, they won't risk coming back, similar to the Mahindra lawsuits. Jeep has the corner on a smallish 2 door solid axled offroad vehicle. I have spoke with Suzuki directly multiple times about any potential of ever coming back, they were quite adamant they would
"never return to the US market". I still hope that'll change, but I'm not holding my breath. Easier to just buy one in Mexico and register it there and drive it here.

Is there an option to register as a full-size ATV here? I can’t remember. I don’t see how it’s any different than a kei truck as long it’s 25+ years old

Could probably get away with registering as an OHV.

I even considered the feasibility of starting an overseas company to disassemble one, then sell it to myself as a kit car.

There’s a company in Texas importing them as gray market vehicles, they are listed around $50k USD, way more than I can afford to gamble with though.

I mean you can get one from CFJ for $5-6k but then you have to figure out how to title and register it I guess...

Guy down here in Spanish fork still has plates on his and drives it around town. It,s lifted now as well with some bigger tires.

Terrible picture with the glare. But he hauls it on his flatbed when pulling his camp trailer.

I think importing one that’s over 25 years old is a lot different than trying to register a new one. It’s legal to import vehicles over 25 years old. So something like that 1998 wouldn’t be an issue to get licensed and registered.

I’m willing to bet that with a vin inspection and an MSO you wouldn’t have any issues registering a new one in a state like Montana for example. The bigger issue is just physically getting it here.

Anything over 25 years is easy.
