The company I work for just started using these robots (built by Boston Dynamics) to run around our central utility plant checking pumps, temperatures and pressures. This used to be a facilities or instrumentation tech job. I'm not ready for robot dogs yet. I thought that was still a black mirror episode.

When I was working on the Facebook data center construction there were several of these dogs running around the site. It’s so neat to watch how they move. They would use them for security, surveying, 3D scanning, and in the end Covid proximity snitches.

All the people I've met from NJ (very small sample) are pretty alien to me so maybe they are a good group to met the little green dudes halfway?

I think I agree that maybe we should sandbag them a bit, but maybe if their first contact is the highest point of our cultural evolution then they will think twice about invasion.

They want no smoke from Ron Ron.

Are robots really cheaper or more efficient than telemetry?? SCADA isn't that hard to install and then no one has to collect these numbers, it's all in whatever computer you want it to be.

They were doing reality capture and as-built construction progress scanning. I used to run software and capture for a similar deal.
