Affordable welding helmet I can actually see with

Following because I like to think I would be a better welder with a nicer hood. Probably not true but a guy can hope

I'm a shitty welder but I've liked my Lincoln helmet I bought at Home Depot. It's been great for what I do and I don't recall it being terribly expensive.

I have this one. I'd buy it again for $100. Anyone that wants to try before they buy is welcome to borrow it.

I’ve been using a HF titanium brand helmet since last year and am pretty happy with it.

Before that I had some ancient fixed shade helmet covered in years of splatter. So I can’t say how nice it really is compared to other auto dimming helmets, but i can see what I’m working on pretty well.

It is auto darkening. It has an adjustment knob that goes from 9 - 13, but it doesn't seem to do anything. And a switch that has two positions, normal and fast. That one does change how fast it goes dark, but not how dark it goes.

I have a pack of replacement lenses and use them. Before it goes dark I can see fine through it. It just goes too dark, to where I really can't see my welds or where I'm putting them. And it's always been like that. I'm just finally tired enough of it to get something better.

Wonder if it’s just stuck on the 13.

I mentioned it in the other thread, but I really like my Razor Weld rw8000x and the 7000 as well. I picked them up at the local welding shop. I was going to get something online, but I felt a lot more comfortable getting a lesser known brand from the local welding supply place rather than trusting Amazon reviews.

The batteries were dead in my helmet the other day so I went ahead and ordered a Lincoln Viking after Ryan really twisted my arm. I will report back when it gets here.

My 9 y/o wants to learn how to weld so I’ve been looking for a new helmet anyways. He can use the old one. It’s a Jackson safety unit that was $135, 9 years ago.

Picked up one of these from Linde in Ogden this week. Really nice helmet!

I mentioned that I'd be getting one of the nicer auto darkening pipeline style helmets previously. Finally got into it. In about $150 but I went with just a single shade auto darkening (10 because I'm using that 90% of the time) instead of a variable which would raise the price a bit.
Remember, with welding, style points are like racing stripes! Welds fuse better if you look cool doing it.
