Gear / Accessories Diesel Heaters

Has anybody using these for their shop tried to recover the heat coming off of the exhaust? YouTube has a thousand videos of people doing it but was wondering if any one hear has tried it.

What does it do for an intake? I imagine it'll lose some efficiency if it's sucking cold outside air instead of warmish inside air?
When I was looking at one for my setup, I happened across a video of a comparison of temps with intake using outside air, and using recycled air from inside the tent. The impression I got was that it didn't have to work as hard to bring temps up if using warm air. I have only used mine twice, and both times was just to knock the chill off, so it didn't run very long. I haven't needed it enough to decide I needed to run my ducting to recycle the air. But I would assume that it would "create" more heat in an enviroment if the intake temp was already "hot".

I got the new heater installed. It was pretty simple. Everything was the exact same so I didn’t have to change any of the wiring or ducting. I just plugged in the new controller swapped out the main body and everything worked. I think I’m most excited about the added Bluetooth capability. And the biggest feature of that is being able to schedule turn on and turn off times. Now on ski days, I can program it to start for me in the morning so when I wake up and head out to the van, it’s gonna be nice and warmed up. And hopefully have all the snow melted off the windshield and everything.

I didn’t replace the fuel pump or anything either since that was new at the beginning of the season so I’ll just add this as a spare.

This is the unit I replaced it with in case anyone is curious.

I heard those HCalory heaters were quieter thank most others. Did you notice any difference?

Does it come with al the other stuff like intake, exhaust, fuel pump, and wiring? Just asking because it doesn’t show in the photos or in the description.

Honestly, I can’t tell a difference in noise. It sounds the exact same to me. Really the fuel pump is the loudest part of these things in my opinion. But mines also underneath the bed and its own little channel compartment, which is part of the reason why it’s difficult to access, but it is very hard to hear when it’s running.

And yeah, it was a complete kit came with everything. It did come with the crappy green flexible fuel line. I wouldn’t recommend using that. It seems like a lot of people have problems with it. Aside from the color of the heater and the control having Bluetooth it looks exactly like every diesel heater I’ve ever purchased with the exact same accessories and hardware.

One thing I did notice that was different. The controller on this one has automatic elevation adjustment just like my other one did, but this one recognized the elevation much more accurately. I’m not sure what they used to recognize elevation I’ve never looked into it, but this one shows the elevation about 1000 feet higher than my old heater did. And that may have been what killed my last heater was having too much fuel at elevation. I’ve heard it’s rough on everything from glow plugs to just the internal build up. A lot of people going in manually adjust the settings based on different charts available online to adjust for elevation but I never did that. I just ran it.
