Topic of Discussion Any PC builders on here?

I stuck with onboard graphics since it supports my 1440P monitor and nothing I do requires a high frame rate. That said, the system is built so I could drop in a good GPU and rock the games.

I forgot to add that I "upgraded" to Windows 10 Pro with an OEM key from https://www.vip-scdkey.com/ for about $17. I was skeptical about it but figured I'd risk the little bit of cash. I paid with PayPal, got the key, and it worked perfectly. I had no issues registering the key once the...

If I didn't need to run WinDoze to work from home I would have wiped the drive and installed linux and continued on for another 10 years.

the old MoBo will move on to upgrade the TruNas server in the basement (with a couple of new 4TB drives) "You probably could have grabbed a cheap graphics card and reapplied thermal paste" actually upgraded to cheap gpu to run 1440p?. It really could have been a dry rot issue with thermal...

So after 10 years, my PC was starting to dial up the fan just to keep up with web browsing and such. This was a Gen 3 I-7 processor with 16 GB ddr. I had strung it along for a couple years by moving to a SATA DDR, but the noise of the CPU fan finally got to me. I'm pretty sure it all started...

    Epic food porn

I trim a LOT of fat out of a brisket and the one above will take 10-12 hours to cook to perfection. In particular, I trim the fat between the flat and point which when left in place will provide insulation and really slow the cook. I can smoke 6 briskets with the same amount of wood (I use...

Today was a meat processing day.. Let's start with 16# of Andouille ready for the smoker. Next up is trimming the brisket for smoking tomorrow. Trimmed and ready. No slather, not nothin', just salt and pepper. The original weight was about #15. The trimmed version above was #7.75 but...

    New DD/tow rig?

Greg, What octane fuel were you using when you overheated? Mine has only overheated once (dash said reducing power due to temps). I was on the last stretch of the grade from Heber to Strawberry res. (I think 6-7%), the outside temp was 95*, total load was about #8500, and this was the only...

Easy Out, or nut and weld?

This is a slick trick for large bolts that have broken off below the surface. Use a piece of black steel pipe and weld it to the top of the broken bolt. To weld the pipe to the bolt, use a stick welder and put the electrode down the inside of the pipe.

    What are you listening to?

In the shop, where I do most of my listening, I use a Linux command line app (pianobar) that bypasses all of the web interface stuff that does the ads and the "are you still listening" bs.

    Who knows 220 motors?

If the centrifugal sticks closed, the starter winding will stay energized and the motor will get hot. switch stuck closed = motor gets quite hot switch stuck open = slow to no start (motor just hums)

    Who knows 220 motors?

good catch on which breaker is tripping @Jedisdead @mbryson , details, details, details..... :) would appear the supply circuit is fine. Still, a breaker tripping means overcurrent or bad breaker. If overcurrent, why. possibly bad unloader valve, bad motor, or maybe bad start capacitors...

    Who knows 220 motors?

I hope it's bigger than 10/3 which is rated 30A continuous. The wire on the top breaker pair looks bigger, maybe. I put a 100A sub-panel in my garage which is now full. The 50A circuit for my welder is on #8 which is ok due to the duty cycle of the welder but for a continuous load it would...
