Quite agree with your take on this. My idea of long range hunting is 300 yards. Being a good hunter means getting closer shots, not trying to be a sniper at crazy distances.

But I'll miss laying in the mud underneath my old Scout tapping on the starter while shorting across the solenoid with a screwdriver to get it started on a sidehill.

Took a day trip to Taos yesterday with a friend from Idaho to pick up his new old Power Wagon. Went over Brazos Summit in New Mexico at 10,528 feet elevation. Colors were fantastic.
