South-East Utah March RME Trip; The San Rafael Swell

black dragon canyon has a couple of tight spots and a couple low ledges. I made it through with a 2013 F150 supercrew. Eagle canyon is a little twisty with some brushy stuff close to the road (did this in a JKU). This is not crawling or really technical.

General Tech What did you work on Today?

The biggest problem I had was the diamond plate bumps preventing a tight fitup and the edges wanting to melt away from each other.

    Learning to TIG: How to?

start here: http://www.weldingtipsandtricks.com/ work gloves might work for you, but won't make it easier compared to a nice pair of deerskin Tillman gloves. A good fit on the gloves is important as well. I also prefer to use a gas lens, they use less gas and the laminar flow just takes gas...

    Can we talk dogs?

My brother had a heeler once and had to tie him up whenever he would mow the grass. Crazy dog would bite the tires on the riding mower and not let go, while it was moving. Flopped like a rag doll but would not let go....

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Almost ashamed to put this here in light of Mike's (zmotorsports) work, but this is my very first real project in aluminum, a tray to hold the accessories for the oxy-fuel setup. Just for fun, I made it challenging; 0.050 diamond plate from a hacked up truck tool box (thanks sixstringsteve)...

Shop / Tools Opportunity to learn/experience welding... Episode 1

I guess I need to add the oxy-acetylene as the 4th process you can try here.... Good for cutting, welding, brazing, heating and bending.

General Tech What did you work on Today?

I decided to make the oxy-acetylene setup fixed to the wall with a 50' hose instead of on a cart so today I made a restraint/hose hanger. tanks secured: 50' hose and regulators attached: If I ever really need it to be mobile, I get out the short hose and strap the tanks to a hand truck...

    Gear / Accessories Welding leathers

I bought the apron mostly for grinding. I have the most control when the grinder pulls straight away from me which means the sparks are coming straight towards me. I've been using a long sleeve cotton shirt to weld with, but it doesn't hold up to the barrage of sparks from the grinder.

If you weld for a short period, a long sleeve cotton shirt is all you need.

    Any Mtn Bikers on RME?

Mine seems to be more XC, 455 chain stay (may also be longer because it's a 29er) with 69* head angle. More than enough to smash a couple sagebrush.
