My thoughts exactly! Almost as bad as hearing songs that came out after I graduated high school on "oldies" stations.

Post trip update. We ended up flying into Cancun, renting a car and staying in Tulum. Used a place found on Airbnb that on the hotel road along the beach, but quiet and felt far more remote than it really was. Was right across from the beach, with access by buying a couple soda's at the beach...

My point is that for most people there is no clear, legal path. The number of immigrants allowed from countries such as Mexico is far lower than demand, thus many choose illegal entry. And the new focus on high skilled workers will make that worse. The lottery idea isn't bad on its face...
