    Vintage camping gear

My thoughts exactly! Almost as bad as hearing songs that came out after I graduated high school on "oldies" stations.

    Tulum, Mexico

Last morning we drove to the Tulum Ruins (see notes on parking above). Spent a couple of hours there. In some ways I liked them more than I did Chichen Itza. Ate a last lunch of fantastic sea food tacos then back to the airport and home.

    Tulum, Mexico

Next day was generally rated as the best of the trip by our kids, and was one that happened by me misreading the map. Our plan was to visit the ruins of Tulum, but I headed south instead of north, which put us in the Sian Ka'an Biosphere reserve (entrance was only mile or so from our place.)...

    Tulum, Mexico

After leaving there, we stopped in a random little town about 30 minutes down the road for lunch. Fun to hit as many nontourist places as possible for meals all week (did same thing for dinner that night.) Then we went to one of the cenotes (basically water filled sink holes that are all over...

    Tulum, Mexico

First full day was spent in and around Chichen Itza. About a three hour drive from Tulum, but easy to navigate and not a bad area to drive in at all. On the advise of guide, we arrived shortly after they opening and avoided the large crowds coming in as we finished a couple hours later. We...

    Tulum, Mexico

Since the trip was based largely on advice from fellow RME folks, will share for the next ones wanting to head south. First, couple key pieces of advice: The rental cars seem to run a size smaller than 'advertised'. We got by okay with a VW Crossfox, but was tighter than ideal for 5 adults...

    Paris Pointers?

We did a one day trip a couple years ago. My wife and I had joked for a long time about going to Paris for lunch, so while on a family trip in Ireland left the kids there (with family) and flew to Paris for the day. Honestly was surprised we could see as much as we did in one day. The Eifel...

    Cancun, Cabo or??

Post trip update. We ended up flying into Cancun, renting a car and staying in Tulum. Used a place found on Airbnb that on the hotel road along the beach, but quiet and felt far more remote than it really was. Was right across from the beach, with access by buying a couple soda's at the beach...

    2018 Christmas thread

Best thing about this Christmas was having all three kids around for 10 days. Last 4 years we have had a missionary out over Christmas, and when our son returned this summer it was right at the start of college for all three so didn't really have much time together. Spent 4 days in Mexico and...

    TRUMP: Whats the real deal?

My point is that for most people there is no clear, legal path. The number of immigrants allowed from countries such as Mexico is far lower than demand, thus many choose illegal entry. And the new focus on high skilled workers will make that worse. The lottery idea isn't bad on its face...
