I have dreamed of taking the Alaska/Canadian highway one direction, returning via barge. Have spent a couple weeks along the inside passage (tip of Prince of Wales Island) and one in Nome. Alaska is worth the trip.

Found it interesting that a Leave No Trace campaign this year even encouraged us to keep our horses off the trails when they are muddy. The biggest problem I see with wheeling and mud is when folks try to avoid the mudholes and go off-trail, thus over the years turning a two-track into a 60'...

Although I think I have sworn off Dodge/Chrysler products after my frustrations with my Ram 2500, just for fun lets and Durrango/Dakota into the mix (roughly 03-07). I had a 98 Durrango, really liked it at the time, but sold it with only 50k or so miles.

I have used bucket traps as well. Works pretty nicely, except my kids would then re-release them in a field.

You may want to check with DWR and see if there are any remaining antlerless permits available. There could be some left over and some of them are late season hunts. You can also get listed in the depredation pool online.
