Let's talk about the F.I.R.E. movement (Financially Independent, Retire Early).

Enough streams of passive/semi-passive income to be able to live the way I want. That's not super extravagant, but like Kurt, enough to maintain a steady diet of travel, leisure, and fun/interesting side projects.

Books on finance/investing you've read and would recommend?

I honestly haven't read a business related book in probably 15 years, but the ones that stuck with me... They are more philosophy based as opposed to instructional which is/was more my speed. Walden - HDT The wealth of nations - Adam Smith Das Kapital - Marx The leisure class - Veblan The...

I would say this is fake news, but I trust you not to mislead me.

    Political So now what

I think, in general, the Democratic party is closer to center than Trump's Republican party. I think the rest of the Republicans are probably similarly distanced from center as the democrats. It will be interesting to see how they balance out going forward. The Republicans certainly need to find...

    Political So now what

For sure, the media is absolutely the catalyst for most of this stuff. But it really depends on your source. There are plenty of conservative sources that are just as blindly skewed to the other side. Facebook reported yesterday that 63% of people that are members of the "extremist" political...

    Political So now what

I don't blame Trump, he's just a symptom. I feel like in the previous 10+ years, the media has fanned the coals of us v them. People are so quick now to draw a line in the sand and point fingers, place blame. Too much intolerance. Trump fed that divide, which was probably both his greatest asset...

    Coronavirus

Where in the death numbers do they differentiate homeless or homed? Are we being told the homeless are not affected? From what I hear, they are substantially, and disproportionately impacted. Shit, at the the last meet and greet one of our own crumbled across a dead guy (presumably homeless)...

    Coronavirus

There are dumb people everywhere. Nobody has said the mask is going to save you from it. It's to try and slow the spread, almost specifically because there are so many cases of COVID that are so mild or asymptomatic that people might not even know they have it when they are out. I get that...

    Coronavirus

The nurses could be in on the conspiracy too. Lots of possible explanations. It's like Occam's Razor, only the opposite. Really though, the homeless is so disconnected from the system that it really is impossible to account for what is happening in that population. As for why maskless folks...

    Coronavirus

I'm across the street from the 4th Street Clinic. The nurses are our most regular customers. All I can say is that they feel like they are on the front lines of a war zone right now. According to them, COVID Is a major problem in the homeless population they deal with.

Once again I'm the catalyst for all sorts of personal growth. Everyone is welcome at the Democratic Republic of Codeganistan. :cody:

Let's talk about the F.I.R.E. movement (Financially Independent, Retire Early).

That might be the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me! As a matter of fact, I have considered politics, but I detest the partisan system so badly that I don't think I'd survive. I could never align with one side and I wouldn't be that interested in doing their scheming and politicking. I'd...

Let's talk about the F.I.R.E. movement (Financially Independent, Retire Early).

I wouldn't say I'm not interested in an early retirement as much as I'm not interested in the traditional concept of retirement. The sooner I can get to a point where I can do my work on my time in what place I see fit, the better. I'd love to take my kids and spend summers in Europe and work...

Let's talk about the F.I.R.E. movement (Financially Independent, Retire Early).

Luckily my wife is young and seems to have way better earning potential than I do anyway, so I'm just waiting for the day I can be a kept man and make my exotic car demolition derby dream into a reality. Now that's FIRE!

Let's talk about the F.I.R.E. movement (Financially Independent, Retire Early).

Maybe you can, but that's not a guarantee. Some of us have beat the living shit out of our bodies, and I can tell you right now that the things that I could do comfortably at 20, or at 30, are not the same now at 40. At 20, I'd have no problem going inverted on a 60 foot table top. At 30, I'd...

That is super expensive! They charge based on capacity, and since our space is so big, it's brutal.
