4.3 V6 swap for cherokee XJ

If you want to go really crazy you can drop a 4.0 from a newer Cherokee into your 86 like I did to my 86. You will need an entire parts jeep to do it however because there's lots of things to swap and modify. Dave

Need a I/M shop that is "4 wheeler friendly"

I have all of my gauges working as they should and would be glad to show you how to do it. Stop on by some night if you live in or near Salt Lake. Alot depends on which wiring harness you used in your swap. Dave

Need a I/M shop that is "4 wheeler friendly"

The law does allow motor swaps as long as the motor can be shown to meet or exceed the emissions of the original engine. When I called the state emissions folks they said that what you have and what I have (84 cj8 with a 99 4.0) are fine as long as the engine has all of its smog stuff on it...

    Dana 300 in a TJ

The dana 300 does share the bolt pattern with the 231 but the input seal housing sticks out too far and you have to use an adapter to hook it up on all of the trannys I have looked at. I put a dana 300 behind a cherokee aw4 in my scrambler using a Novack adapter. The adapter clocks the 300 to...

    Bumper paint question

Thanks for the tips. When I did POR on the bumpers I did sand and clean the metal then I used the POR metal prep and it still would peel right off. The POR on my frame is working great but not on the new metal. I'll check with my brothert in law who is an auto body expert and see what he can do...

    Bumper paint question

I am building a new rear bumper for my scrambler with a tire carrier and hitch in it and would like to paint it with something that will hold up. I have tried spray paint on previous bumpers but it doesn't last very long. On another one I tried POR 15 but it chips off too easily. Should I go the...

    extending cj5 wheelbase

CJ7s and CJ8s are both longer than the 5 in the rear but are exactly the same as a 5 up front. I can't imagine you would run into problems. Dave

dana 44 scout vs. dana 44 wagoneer

Wagoneer rears are 58.5 inches wide, scouts are about 59 if I remember correctly. The wagoneer front is about 60.5 inches wide and is usually shortened 4 inches on the drivers side. Useing the 44 front full width requires moving the springs to the outside of the frame on a cj. The wagoneer rears...

Building a Frame? Anyone done this? Or part of one?

I have an old wagoneer frame that no one seems to want. You could come and chop out anything on it that might help you out. By the way stock frames are made out of high carbon steel and you should be carefull how you weld on to them or you can make them vulnerable to cracking. Dave

Well it sounds like I better build the bumper mount carrier because I am going to have a 33x12.50 tire on mine...... Dave

How big of a spare on a stock CJ carrier.

How big of a spare tire can I put on a CJ stock spare tire carrier before it starts to damage the carrier or sheet metal where it hooks into the body ? I am planning on building a bumper mount carrier but it may take me a while before I get to it and I don't want to mess up the jeep in the mean...

    turn signal wiring???

I have seen on several rigs where the turn signals wouldn't flash because the lights weren't drawing enough current or a light was out. Most flashers that I have worked on require a certain amount of current flow to trigger the flasher. If you have used LED type lights that don't draw enough...

    Singing the Dana 35 blues

    Singing the Dana 35 blues

I have just about had it with the wimpy dana 35 axle in my Cherokee. The first break down could have been really bad if it had happened while the wife was on the freeway rather than one mile after getting off the freeway. It turns out that the axle shaft in my 35 isn't actually a one piece axle...

Lets See Your Best Trail Fixes

My son in law dropped his xj off a step in Moab last spring and shoved his muffler clamp into the gas tank and popped two holes in the tank. I patched the holes with chunks from a bar of soap that I worked into the holes. Once the leaks stopped I covered the soap with duct tape to keep the water...
