A college kid just didn't have $1000 laying around to buy alloy shafts. Working full time barely paid for school, living expenses, mandatory repairs to stay running, and 80-100 days per year in moab ;) Since I sold it, I know the next owner broke the locker and cracked the tubes as they go...

Having done several of these, it's a good idea to buy a new input shaft. I swapped input shafts from my old 249 into a new 231, and because my input shaft had some wear on it, it caused it to mesh a little off..which caused pressure on the shift forks...which melted the plastic pads on the...
