Another Benchrace: family rig, reliable, cheap

Thanks, tried selling the wife on just test driving a LC, and she passed  brand loyalty something something... I've done the rounds on a WJ, seem to be a great value. I just don't see being happy with it long term. A couple good deals have come and gone on XJs in the last few days...

    Sand Hollow area trails

Plenty of room to park a motorhome. Immediately before you go under the underpass I've seen 5-6 big toyhaulers parked at once. Then after you go through the underpass it opens up quite a bit, but the road is a lot tougher, so depending on your setup you may not want to go that far in. You can...

    Built xj

Can you post some pics of the interior front seats and rear? What's the story with the cage? A, B and C pillars tied in? Does it have frame stiffeners? Do the full doors all open and close like they should?

Seriously - Where are all of the cheap Cherokees? Looking for a clean 98-01. As of today, this is the direction I'd like to go. A simple rig just to get us back out wheeling. I've been watching copart for a salvaged JK, and have found a few that look perfect. Between having to hire a broker and...

    Backpack for trip to Europe

My opinion on Europe packs in general - the one you linked to is waaaay too big. Most days we were able to drop our bags at our Airbnb the day we arrived. Two times we ended up with them on our backs for most of the day (in Venice, 3 hours of roaming around glad we packed light). It's amazing...

    Backpack for trip to Europe

We used Osprey Porter's for our 2 week trip last summer. GREAT pack, would definitely recommend going that route. I did the 46l, which was a hair big for inner Europe carry on size, but I didn't get hassled for it (something to watch out for - when you only pay $30 for a flight, they nickel and...

Another Benchrace: family rig, reliable, cheap

I've thought hard about an XJ... I've been watching KSL as much for XJs as I have for JKs. Seems like decent ones are asking 4500+, which seems a bit steep for what it is. I probably would go that route if I could find a good deal.

That's what my head (and wife) keep telling me too. Best place to shop for such vehicles? I've been perusing Copart, anyone know of other avenues available to the public?

Maybe a little more room, but no easier to get kids in and out. May e a trailblazer?

My FIL thinks we should do an Xterra, says older ones have gotten cheap? That's definitely uncharted territory for me

Didn't Chevy put a 5.3 in a Colorado? Do a SAS on 37s and call it good? Maybe a bob and dovetail for departure angle?

You're probably right. I've also considered some alternate ways to get the initial purchase price down... Salvage/wrecked, super high mileage, use a buddy to check the auctions?

I may have to shop around a bit more, but my impression is that a Toyota in general isn't great on the value proposition - maybe a bit more in the reliability department over a Jeep of the same area, but significantly more $... And my neighbor just picked up a fzj80(?) and it is the most...

Another Benchrace: family rig, reliable, cheap

I've been thinking about a new rig since selling our TJ. Since our girls were born, 90% of our wheeling trips could have been done in a street legal rig. Typically we went out solo, just because wheeling with kids is hard with a group. And since I've been telecommuting, a lot of times we wheel...

    4 Years in Italy

My parents spent a few years based in Sigonella in the early 80s. They always talked about that time as some of their favorite years. Enjoy your time there, and post lots of pics!
