My scout just passed w/ spacers on the front. I asked them why they were shaking their heads as I pulled in & if it was due to the spacers & they said those were ok but I needed fender flares. It may just be the shop/inspector. I just picked up 20' of 5 or 6" garden edging at Home Depot for $20 and a few dollars for sheet metal screws since there are no flares for early scouts:-\ It may not look the best but they liked it & it keeps me legal:)

I ended up ditching the spacers up front and H1 rims and just got some nice :brett: style rims since I got a good deal on them:rofl: They look to pretty to beat up:sick:

The "spacers" are legal if they have their own lug studs pressed in to them... because the law calls a spacer something that just slides on over the existing lug studs and doesn't bolt on or anything(effectively making the stud shorter), and those are not legal. So technically, the spacers that bolt on and provide their own studs should really be called adapters, which are perfectly legal.

Or at least that's what the state inspector type around here tells me.

I'd tell you about a local shop that would probably pass you, but I took one of my other cars there yesterday and they can only do emissions testing now. Their safety inspection was shut down by the state for being too lenient.

I also received a mud-flap fix-it ticket with a warning that my tires stuck out a bit. I put on some mud flaps at a small angle so they mostly covered the tires and the outer edge of the flap was almost even with the tire, they were also a bit short and didn't meet the required 1/2 way down the tire mark. City cop ok'd it. 'Course I have since tore one flap off while doing some mild wheeling.

Sorry, no ideas on the out of state thing other than go to court and hope for the best.

It's been awhile since I owned it, but I had Bushwackers on my Samurai. If I remember correctly they were origionally being designed for a jeep, but then they were modified for a Sami... Anyway they stuck out alot and would cover most anything, but they where really expensive :-\

I finally decided to run a 10.50 on 8" rims (soon to be 6") though hard to find in big sizes it beats getting pulled over alot. And among other things I like em' tall and skinny anyway :greg:

Not at all. This is just what he needs + another set and he is good to go.

plus another set??? You only have to have mud flaps on the rear tires. I had a short conversation with the cop that gave me the fix it ticket, asking him exactly what I needed and specifically about the front. I was nice and friendly about it, just wanting to know what I need to do to be compliant which was probably why I only got a verbal warning for the tires sticking out.

I think that he was referring to a front set of flares, not mud flaps. And as for mud flaps it depends on who you talk to. The Draper cops seem to think that you need front mud flaps as well. My bro got some hassle from them for only having them on the rear.

Doh! I just re-read that and I think your right.

Unless there are specific city laws, the state only requires rears. It was a state police officer that pulled me over, and who I specifically asked. I'm pretty sure it was a "sting" as well, he came after me from an overpass in a construction zone on I-15. After he let me go (with a fix-it ticket), about a half mile up the road was another lifted 4x4 with no mud flaps pulled over. Then a city of Clearfield officer inspected my Jeep to make sure it was legal and it passed. It probably shouldn't have, I don't think the mud flaps are quite long enough...

Good luck getting out of this one! Going with Idaho plates since you couldn't pass in Utah is, well, something I guess you deserve a ticket for.

But a thumbs up for not taking the 'cop is an idiot' rant mode we often get here when some one is ticketed.

My mud flaps are removable. Took a piece of ¾" angle iron, welded a rod to one side so that it stuck out to one side. Then drilled holes and attached mud flap to the other side of angle iron. Welded a small tube to wheel side of bumper and I just slide the rod into that and pin clip to keep it there when needed. Otherwise I just keep the flaps in the back of the Jeep.

Talk to Rocky Road Outfitters, they have Zuk flares - which are rear? YJ flares. Bushwacker will not sell them to anyone else.

I would also get everything legal quick. Then when you go to court, plead for mercy and show that everything is fixed. Some judges will find the ignorance approach insulting, so be wise here. But the fact you got everything fixed shows you dealt with it ASAP. If you need more time, ask for an extension.... Just don't not go, that woudl be bad, em-kay...
