my tahoe's clear cote is peeling off. I though about having it done in a satin black. What are the pluses and minuses to this. Also what are some different options that would break the bank.

Totally Awesome
just buy some spray paint and do it yourself in satin black. cheaper, and you won't be mad if you screw it up later on. just make sure you key the area well and clean well before spraying the paint. And make sure all the bugs are dead. I hate bugs, they always try to fly into my paint. winter is a good time to paint.

These guys make a catalyzed industrial paint that is really awesome. About $100 a gallon with the catalyst and comes in a satin finish as well as others. Ive had it mixed up in Red, Desert tan and a really cool dark grey. https://www.google.com/maps/place/N...560114d5eff7e!8m2!3d40.7191765!4d-111.8959236

Keep in mind with a satin paint you can not cut and buff so prep is super important as well as a quality spray gun to lay the paint down. I used a devillbis gfg 670+ https://www.amazon.com/DeVilbiss-GFG670-Efficiency-Gravity-Spray/dp/B0002SQYB4

This paint held up amazing to trees and other off road dirt and mud. Much better than the hotrodz Flat that Ive used in the past and its cheaper too!

The first pic is an epoxy Primer.

Still was holding up great even a few years later!

The problem is the prep work on the clear sucks. You have to sand the clear completely off no matter what you decide to do. The reality of it is it's a 2008. It's getting to the point that it may not may not be worth the cost of an expensive paint job. My suggestion would be to have Maaco paint it. If you watch their sale you could get a descent paint job for a lot less than anywhere else They actually do descent work
