Problems:
The pass side seat has a tear in the limited stitching. See pic
The rear hatch doors had Alpine subs in the door panels. They were heavy and pulling apart from the doors. I pulled them as the stereo sounds great without them. I will include the panels though as I still have them.
Small dent on front DS fender from previous owner. See pic

No Rust
No Leaks

This Excursion has been maintained its entire life. I have a large file of receipts from before I bought it. I know these trucks inside and out. The tranny was replaced already with Ford's "heavy Duty" 4R100 at 104K. Then I did the HD torque converter and highflow pump shortly after purchasing it as a precautionary item. It shifts great with no issues at all.

Excursion is located in Windsor, CO about an hour north of Denver. And, yes I would drive it anywhere in the country immediately.

Its setup right, that is for sure. No EGT issues when towing at all, starts even when -5*. Mild tunes that won't hurt the motor. And, its the last year of the lower forged parts in the 7.3L.

When I bought me Ex I hated it. Drove like a sail boat. After the spring swap, it is awesome. These are great rigs and this one has all the work already done. I pull my 12K toyhauler with no problem. GLWS.

Did you do anything to the intercooler or is it just the exhaust that handles the egt's? I have similar tunes (dp) and I can spin my pyro around three times if I keep my foot in it.

You may have some up-pipe leaks then. I haven't had any issue with EGTs at all. I normally only tow around 7k though with it. For the most parts its been my wife's daily driver. She drives it in stock tune too.

It's cuz you didn't correct it with V or X code springs like I told you to.

That rig had a few other issues as well. It was good for it to wander away....

This rig has all the proper stuff to make it drive like a dream.

If I hadn't just bought a JK, I might be interested. It is setup like you'd want it to be. LOVED towing with my '99 F250 with 7.3L.

One thing about the SD 7.3L, is that its pretty much a slug in stock form. A tuner really helps with throttle response, especially with eliminating turbo lag. The turbo spools quickly and pull hard. I had Jody at DP custom tune this tuner for me. I don't get a lot of smoke at all, but get the throttle response I wanted. The tunes are spot on IMO.

X2 for Jody.

I love his tunes for the Super Duty trucks. Not so much for the OBS trucks(94-97).

My "new" tow rig is a 94.5 7.3L DRW, 5spd, 2wd. Lots of mods. Its my 3rd OBS 7.3L. This one pushes 400hp/900ft/lbs. But its reliable power. Stage 1 injectors, intercooler, stock turbo, Valair clutch, etc. I can hit 35psi of boost in the upper tunes. But, I keep it tamed. I use Power Hungry Performance tunes for the OBS trucks. I have had good luck with their tunes despite the crappy customer service. Mainly because I have much better luck keeping EGTs down with PHP tunes in the OBS trucks.

Not trying to hijack a thread but... What kind of egts do you get on your obs. Have you done anything with fuel and hpop? I am getting ready to order stage one 160 cc for my 1996.

I sent mine to Rosewood and he turned them into Stage 1's. Jim was very easy to work with. I still don't have the intercooler installed with mine. But, I haven't had any issues with the OBS or the Excursion. I typically run 550* unloaded at 65 on flat ground. Towing is around 800* on flats. The key is making sure you have no up-pipe leaks, and that everything is in good working order. I haven't touched the fuel or HPOP. I get a check engine light in the OBS when I hit 24psi+ boost. But, that is due to the MAP sensor sensing too much boost. I can hit 36psi of boost in that truck though.

I never went crazy with the Excursion. They are mild tunes and work great. They really wake up the 7.3L and give it more power like the more modern diesels. Without the headaches of dealing with all the DPF and Urea crap. And, its still completely reliable and safe power.

I actually did a build thread on Pirate for the OBS. Its ugly as hell, but won't be for long. Its going in this spring for paint.
