Remember, a stock clutch is only good for so much power (IIRC 700ft/lbs) after that you have to drop $2k on a clutch. A bullet proof auto is $5k

I would stay away from the 24v trucks if possible....

 A lot more CRs melt a cylinder than 24s have problems

The dual disk I just bought was under $1500. A built trans can be well in excess of $5000.

Ive never even heard of a STOCK c.r. tearing up a piston. Ive heard of thousands of STOCK 24v needing an IP.

Im not saying they are junk, just that in that 14-20k price range why would you want one ?? There are better options available. Especially if its an auto truck with a 5th wheel and a most likely stock trans.

Tons of people drive 24v trucks everyday. Lots have no problems.

I guess I just think that a 14k truck that will most likely need $1500 to $5000 in repairs before its paid for ( Figuring a 36 month note ) is not a good move compared to a 18k truck that most likely wont. JMO

I don't think I want the 12v, simply because I don't want to be stuck with the older body style and interior.

FYI 94-98 12V's had the same body as the 98.5-02 24V's for the most part although the interior did get a few refinements later on.

In 98 you could get a 12V with a quad cab which would be my pick of the 2nd gens :D

Was that 1500 installed? A Suncoast for mine installed at Gillette will be a little bit over $5k..... but my damned stock tranny wont die.

Two of my friends have had it happen this year alone, one stock one with a Juice and nothing else..

This is a failing in the LP it has NOTHING to do with the Cummins, and in '01 or '02 they superseded the diaphram that the LP takes out, almost eliminating the problem (when you replace the IP it should have the new diaphram).

A 98 12v quad cab with a 5 speed trans. Also known as the holy grail. lol

No it wasnt an installed price. Its still not even installed. I will however be using his nice shop with a lift to install it after hours though. Im even going to make him help me. lol

Also you got away cheap if you shop at Gillette. lol
If you need anything else expensive PM me for a phone #. Your wallet will appreciate it. ( It wont be my # but someone I trust )

As far as the lp etc... Like I said he stocks oil filters and VP44's.

I also drive an 02 Cummins and have had no problems with the injection pump or any thing else. I bought mine at 137k and now have 179k and have owned it for 2.5 years. If I were to experience some of these ip problems I would simpley have nyceguy01 p-pump it for me along with a set of twins and a dd clutch for my 6spd:greg: If I were buying a truck today I would keep it simple and look for a 12v or a p-pumped 24v and put it in a 87-91 crew cab chevy 4x4 6spd:greg:

My old man bought a 99 dodge new and has never modded it. also never replaced the lift pump or the ip. He pulls a trailer with it always. either hay or cattle with a ridiculous amount of weight, still going today with about 180k on it.

Only you can make the decision, I am not comfortable in the 3rd gens so I am stuck with mine until I find a good chevy to swap my drive train in, someday. Good luck and it is a great time to buy as far as price goes.

edit, my old man has put about 3-4 fifth gear nuts in his tranny though.

Well after further inspection, and the dealerships inability or lack of wanting to work with me on a price, I think I am going to pass on this truck

I'd look at the '03 and newer Dodge trucks if something happened to my F*rd. I like the overall truck just a little better. I'll make you a deal on my F*rd if you want? :D
