2003 Montero Sport...needs work EDITED
Over the past couple of years there has been a couple of times I wondered if I was going to hit the point of selling instead of repairing my 2003 Montero Sport.
The time has finally come.
Since I am not (and don't want to be) a mechanic, totals up to more than I want to spend. But could still make a good little SUV for someone wanting to get him back on the road:
Here is the basic list of what I know it needs (working off memory- sadly may not be complete.)
Upper and lower ball-joints, both sides.
Catalytic Converter (system uses 2, both are bad)
Front Drive Shaft
Rear Springs
O2 Sensor
Tranny speed sensor
t-case if frozen (in AWD, won't shift into 4-Hi, 4-Lo)
Has significant miss-fire, hopefully only needs full tune-up (not the easiest on these engines) but possible valve issues.
Is about time for timing belt- would make sense to do it along with the rest the work.
Stereo has had better days. Unless you are good at singing to yourself, may be worth replacing.
Oil leak- mild. Not sure from where.
By way of disclosure, the check engine light has been on for a number of years- had some small vacuum leaks we couldn't track down. Since I haven't needed emissions testing, we called it quits on the search. If they can not be resolved, may not be able to be registered in a county requiring testing.
Now, all is not doom and gloom.
Body and interior are in pretty good condition. Of course a few dings and mild rust, but he still looks good.
Has 210,000 miles.
2" O.M.E. lift
285/75R16 BFG All-Terrains (3 good, one fair)
water pump, radiator and drive shaft replaced last year
A/C etc works well.
I will try to get some updated pictures. It is currently sitting at my mechanics, so will have to swing by.
Would love to get it sold and gone so I don't have to move it from the shop. Sort of runs, so you could drive it a short distance. Best to trailer if taking it very far.
$300o.b.o.
I will be looking for a replacement vehicle (S-10/Ranger or full-size truck, SUV preferred but open to suggestions) in the $2-3K price range so certainly would look at trades + cash (from me of course).
As noted below, main goal is to find someone who would like to get it back on the road or trail. Hate for it to be sent off to the junk yard. Open to any cash offer as well as trades.
