2006 F350 HELP! Just did a bunch of work on it, now NO START?

I just got through a week and a half of work on my truck. just working on it when I had time.

I did the following:

Bullet proof EGR cooler
New Oil Cooler
New oil filter
New oil
New STC fitting on HPOP
New Stand Pipes
New Dumby Plugs
1 New injector

I have not filled it with water yet. I wanted to make sure it will start first incase I have to tear it back apart.

I've been trying to start it today. I've been cranking it for about 10 minutes off and on. My oil gauge finally showed oil pressure after about 3 tries.

Any ideas?

do you have fuel pressure? You do you have oil pressure in the hpop? cause your injectors wont fire without oil pressure... I am not a powerstroke guy by any means but enough of them have broke down I have heard enough people complain about them, ha

Yeah, its a pile. its probably going to go away soon.

I have normal oil pressure. not sure how long it should take to bleed everything.

The fuel lines had air in them and so did all the high pressure oil lines. So, i'm probably screwed and should just drive it off a cliff.

I'll save you all of the trouble and risk of personal injury by picking it up this evening and hauling it off. I'll be there around 7:00pm with a trailer. Sound good?

Its a sad day when a Land Rover is more reliable. Oh-Wait, it'll always be more reliable then a Ford. POS

...but you bought the most notoriously unreliable F*rd ever, the 6.0L that most F*rd guys will caution you against buying? They're awesome trucks, just have a crappy engine in the 6.0L and 6.4L years (jury still out on the 6.7L in my opinion)

I know I did. The year I purchased 2006 is one of the best years of that engine. Rarely problems with it.

Most of the stuff I did was because I was in there. I can't tell you how much I loath diesels.

Sounds like there is still air in the fuel lines to me... I'd crack fittings wherever they're accessable and bleed the air out until it fires up. Even then, it will likely run like crap for a few minutes while it bleeds even more air out.

If the HPOP isn't sensing oil pressure (due to a oil leak or malfunctioning sensor) it won't open the injectors and will continue to crank, not even showing a sign of starting due to no fuel. You're on the right track, either fix the leak or faulty sensor.

My International work truck has the same thing, but was intermittent on starting... worse when it was cold.

Whenever you open up the oil lines it gets air into the system.
And can take a long time to fire up the first time..

(When I did my 7.3 HPOP and such it took about 40mins till it even tried to start)
Check all your connections, make sure your fuel pump is working (I have one if yours don't).

The powerstroke motors run electronic fuel pumps, meaning if you cycle the pump a few times, it normally will force the air out of the injectors.

Is your tach reading when your cranking?

Finally got it to start. Still somewhat hard to start, but I have not been able to take it for a drive.

I cannot get the exhaust manifold up pipe to the turbo to attach correctly. So I finally gave up and drove it down to a shop to have some one fix it. They quoted me $160 to do it. At this point its a deal. I'm tired of messing with it.

The good news is, after driving 20 minutes down to the shop, there aren't any leaks, the temperature is cooler then before. And it starts when hot. I probably saved myself $2000 by doing the work myself. I'm just tired of it. So I'll pick it up tomorrow and be happy.

Good call. You saved yourself a bunch and then let the last little bit go before you blew it up. That's a win win.

I'm having a weird issue with my '06 6.0... It will start in the mornings just fine, but if I get it to operating temperature and then shut it off, it song start for about 2 hours of letting it just sit. If I try to start it within those two hours then it just cranks. No fuel given. So, is start it up in the morning and it runs continuously all day until I get home, unless I know I will be somewhere for longer than two hours
