Jeep 2006 LJ gas tank capacity?

I have a noobe question here. I purchased a 2006 LJ earlier this year. I haven’t driven it much, just short trips to the store and stuff. I took it on a longer trip and I was surprised when the tank was completely empty I could only get about 12 gallons of gas in it. I’m not as familiar with Jeeps as I am with Land Rovers and this did not seem right to me. I believe that my 84 CJ-7 I had years ago would hold around 20 gallons. My D-90 holds 16.8 gallons. It just seems that 12 gallons does not give you the range for some longer exploring and trails.

Thanks,

Russ

It sounds like your gas gauge is not working right. You should put 5 gallons of extra gas inside and take a loooong drive.
