After a year of searching, I finally found the vehicle I've been searching for: a 2007 turbo Diesel Grand Cherokee with Quadra Drive II. What's special about the 2007 and 2008 WK CRD is these years had the Mercedes OM642 engine. The 3.0 six cylinder engine produced just as much torque as the hemi option, but without the hit in mpg. That, and diesel.
This guy was one owner with only 55k miles.
It was garage kept, and horribly bone stock. It was a breeze to work on, every bolt turned without issue, it was a FL vehicle its whole life.
First up, I had to do the audio. I used wire from the spare parts bin and open unwanted/old equipment. The vehicle was shipped with a full-featured nav deck, so I didn't see the point of replacing it.
Things can get a bit Travony when you work alone in the shop in Ft Lauderdale at night.
Then I did the lift. Since everything is expensive, and I had only a short time for my first January trip, I elected to go cheap for now and get some wheel spacers and a rough county lift to clear my 32" Duratrac tires. I did upgrade the a arms while I was at it.
Then, I worked on comms
Then I installed my HF ghetto dual batt system for the fridge. It's complicated.
My skid plates arrived the day I was leaving for GA, but Rocky Road still hasn't built my rock sliders nor my roof rack to date. Lame.
Here are some poser pics from Country Fried Weekend earlier this month. Camping, lots of trails, gun play, and all on private land.
Can you spot the expo in the first pic? Special prize for the First who can.
So far, I'm digging it. My future plans include installing the AEV egr that arrived while I was away, an OME lift and an ARB bumper.
