i have questions about the rules. this may not be the place but i am interested in competing this year.

on street-stock class it says "frames must be OEM"
but does not say they must be oem to the body used, i have a shortened, chevy frame under a Bronco II. does that disqualify me?

i also have a chevy truck engine that has a larger camshaft. does that disqualify me ?

i don't want to be stuck in a much higher class because i did a body swap, my rig is a pretty street stock rig, i drive it 10,000 miles a year
i don't want to compete against a bunch of rigs in an unlimited class that have never seen an inch of street. and get trailered out to every place they wheel.

Thanks Craig. Just wanted to ask for your permission to post this up on JKOwners. I'd still have to ask them for permission but I am sure they would buy off on it. I want to compete but I also want to have a good showing of JK guys. There aren't too many Utah guys on there so I don't think it would be an overwhelming showing.

Also no complaints on the rules. I wasn't sure at first about the 40" tire but going 37's as a middle point and giving or taking away points from there seems like a great comprimise.

I also didn't see anything about a 6 point cage being required like last years rule book said was coming this year. Did you scratch that idea? I know you had a few complaints about it for street rigs at least. I realize that my JK would be fine, just asking in general.

This is the perfect place to comment and the reason that the rules are posted here.

Without putting your vehicle through tech it sounds like your vehicle would go into the Legend class. The courses for the Legend class are one class tougher than stock, but a lot easier than unlimited courses.

The engine does not factor into tech inspection.

I hope that answers your questions. I am looking forward to seeing you in May.

Please post the rules on the JK forum and ask them to comment, if any changes need to be made, now is the time. The six point cage should be implemented for driver safety and is just common sense. That may still come. Rock crawling has taken a back seat to the hammer style racing that requires big $$$. Sponsors and enthusiasts are putting their money into hammer races and trail riding. OSRC entries are down as well as sponsor $$$. We need all the teams we can get to make the May event happen and any team we lose makes it harder to pay expenses and obtain future sponsors. Rock crawling would be back in fashion if 100 teams would show up for the Delta events. I am looking for 50 teams this year and hoping that the JK class can help reach that number.

thanks i'll look closer at the legends rules and see if i won't pass for any other reasons.

i haven't gotten to compete in anything, a while back i tried to compete in the mud drags sanctioned by "hometown mud racing association" and they said "oh you need to compete in unlimited class.......see those $100,000 rigs over there with 54" tires, and top alcohol dragster supercharged engines? yeah you'll be competing with them"

i don't plan to even podium, i was just more concerned about getting with courses beyond my own/ my vehicle's ability.

my only real concern is that i have a couple large holes cut in my firewall for clearance of valve-covers/the distributor.

if i patch it with approved materials (current patches are not approved materials), would that pass tech?

Sounds like that would work.

The rules look good. One of the few times I'm glad the Ranger actually has Ranger frame rails and similar body panels.

sweet, i am a total RBV nut. i am all about them. that is awesome

that rig is literally the kind of rig that makes mine look like a soccer-mom ford explorer. glad to be competing in legends against it and rigs like it
just because i did a body swap........

Guys, Craig and I have been talking over the rules and have been thinking about adding the following safety item:

“If any vehicle is operating without full factory doors, it is required to have a minimum of a half doors, tube doors, or cross bars incorporated into the roll cage at least 5” above the vehicles floor to contain the occupants feet in a roll over situation”.

This primarily focuses on the Toyota and Jeep JK & XJ people (the CJ, YJ, and TJ have enough body work there to meet the 5” minimum) and is intended to protect the driver and/or spotter. What are your thoughts on this rule?
