So is a roll cage required for all Classes this year. It seems that it is just wanted to make sure. I know it is a good idea but lots of Cherokee and Toyota guys do not have them.

Kevin, you need to enter in this.

Craig, we have 3-5 rigs from our club that are going to be entering in this year.

I found this section in the rules about foot bars that and is similar to what Brian is talking about. Which one do you like best?

4.18 Foot Bars-Foot bars must be constructed of a minimum of 1.25" OD x .090 minimum wall tube. Foot bars must be installed between the front and rear hoop of the main roll cage at a minimum height of 6" measured from the vehicle floor if not incorporated into the original vehicle design. The foot bar must be designed to keep feet inside the vehicle in case of roll over.

“If any vehicle is operating without full factory doors, it is required to have a minimum of a half doors, tube doors, or cross bars incorporated into the roll cage at least 5” above the vehicles floor to contain the occupants feet in a roll over situation”.

This is what is in the rules already:
4.7 Roll Bars/Cages - Roll bar construction must be welded and connection points of the roll cage must tie in to the frame of the vehicle. Body mounts are considered a tie in point for Street Stock class. Bolt in cages are approved at factory mounting locations. Roll cages must be capable of protecting the driver and spotter from injury. Old School Rock Crawl will not be responsible for cages that fail. The safety of the roll cage is the responsibility of the driver and spotter.

We have been letting vehicles with metal cabs by without cages in the stock class. We have had one close call and we try to make the courses safe, but a cage is needed. I have rolled many times and I like the best safety equipment that I can get. I use a six point cage, five point harness, and suspension seats with a good helmet. I was hurt in a rollover in Farmington New Mexico and upgraded all of my safety equipment after that accident. My back is still screwed up from that one. The main problem was that I was using cheap seats that were non-suspension type.

I like this one best. Allows more options.

I agree whole-heartedly.

Kevin, you've been lucky up till now, I would recommend a cage more than any other single piece of equipment, it feels silly to spend so many thousands of dollars on tires, lockers, gears, etc.... and not protect yourself.
We try to be in control during wheeling but none of us are capable of predicting what can potentially happen.
You have plenty of time to cage your rig before this event. You'll wonder why you hadn't done it earlier.

Either way; I would encourage you to compete and perhaps decline obstacles that have rolling potential. Hopefully you'll have fun and come back with a cage.

I would love to compete but I will respect Craigs wishes and not unless I have a cage. Time to build one YES. Money and resources to build one NO. I know that we cannot control every aspect of wheeling. Accidents and Rolls do happen but I also believe there is more than LUCK involved There is a certain level of skill and knowledge of when to take a strap or winch that also is factored into it. I would not mind a simple Exo cage but don't think I will have one done before this event.

cages are so important as are good seats and seat belts. I was a the close call when i first competed in stock class i ended up flopping on my lid pretty hard and crushing part of the roof by the windshield in among other things, i was un hurt but i was un wise for not having a cage in before. Craig has changed the stock lines of each course to make it safer but like stratton said you never know when you roll. Needless to say i had a cage( and no top) next time and have used it many times sense. I installed the foot bars in mine and they have kept my legges and feet safe many times. if anyone needs suspension seats or seat belts let me know i have a some kicking around

I would like to Bear but without a cage I will be unable too.

even a simple two hoop exo cage with plenty of cross pieces to tie them together would do, if you have sliders it makes it much easier to tie in, if you need help with a cage i have a tube bender and would be willing to let you or others use it to build a small cage saftey is important and id perfer people be safe rather than not because of money or tools

I like that the JK class can have tire sizing up to 40" with a point deduction of anything over 37". What about offering that in the other classes; same concept in Stock Class, and up to 42" or even 44" in Legend and Pro Mod? It just seems to me that more people are running larger tires, and this would accommodate for that. I know for myself, as an example, I really want my next set of tires to be 42s, but the 40" limit in Legend class keeps me from getting them.

What does everbody think about having bigger tires in other classes similar to the JK class?

Maybe with a bigger penalty. I for one, think most "stock" class rigs should only be running 35's. But I know some that have stuffed 38's under a mildly built jeep, but now he has to run in the legend class. I think it would be ok with a hefty penalty.
