I will take 2 of these....

I would hate to see the cost of that!

That is an IFS system I would be proud to drive. Too bad Jeep couldn't possibly roll out a system as awesome as that. I've seen it before on JKO but don't remember any specifics.

I don't think it makes any sense for jeep to do it. NO sense at all. It won't help sales. Jeep already has plenty of vehicles with IFS for people who need a car. Every other manufacturer has plenty of "cars" with IFS. Jeep will lose if it changes.

People don't buy wrangler because it is a good "car". They buy it for the awesomeness.

Something has to change with the Wrangler for it to meet CAFE and rollover standards that are being mandated by our growing nanny state. As the article suggests, Jeep may be looking to do this to reduce weight and help it achieve those requirements. Unless they can figure out a way to keep solid axles and meet CAFE, I doubt that they will stay.

I doubt they will stay too. I just think it is a mistake and will hurt jeep.

I am willing to bet that when this happens, MOPAR would be smart to have conversion kits available

FIFY

(don't see them thinking that far ahead or frankly CARING what their "core" users that provide their brand image think--nice to hope, but Jeep couldn't care less about the actual Jeep users....they are in it for the short term share price, not really maintaining a 70 year old brand. They'll just use it up until it's lost it's meaning and move on to something else.)

I'm not sure if I read the CAFE standards correctly, but if I did, they'd have to meet 34 mpg (from current 18 mpg). They'd be better off moving to the larger footprint, which is set for 22 mpg. All that being said, it will take a lot more than adding IFS to hit those numbers.

If they use rainbow colored unicorn farts as a core for fuel and mix it at 30% with corn based ethanol (grown from only 6 counties in Iowa), they could hit 50 mpg and have a HEMI powerplant. It'll work because Nancy Pelosi says it can and wrote it into law.
