2017-18 Chukar Season

Due to the shop building project this year, I pretty much missed the 2017 portion of the 2017 / 2018 chukar hunt. Now that it's dried in, it's time to put some lead in the air.
Saturday was a great day... For me and the dogs! Not so much for these five.

West desert. I've probably walked every mountain out there. I did 10 miles that day and about 2500' elevation. Seems like all the elevation gain is in the first mile. From there it's a lot of up and down. You don't notice as much when you're into the birds. I'm sure the dogs do 2-3 times the distance. Just once I'd like to catch them running across the road while I'm driving in, like we did on 21 Road. I'll keep chasing them until mid February and posting my results.

Two more last weekend. No pictures. It was a windy day yesterday, which makes for tough hunting. Chukars hate the wind and seem to disappear. Finally got into some after about 15 miles total of straight up and down.

Went out last weekend, hiked about 8 miles and just couldn't get into them. It was windy that day as well. Killed a snow shoe hare and saw a few other rabbits but that's it.
