231 T-case expert advice needed!!!

In switching the T-cases on Redrock5.9's ZJ, I unintentionally popped the metal cap out of the center of the input shaft. We were swaping the input shafts from his old 249 to the new 231 we're installing.
I can see that the cap stops fluid from flowing between the t-case and the transmission, and I'm concerned that's going to cause a problem.. The trans is a 46RE.

Turns out the cap was a part of a bearing to keep the trans-x and trans fluid separate. Hammering out the cap means replacing the bearing, I wasn't able to tack weld it back since the weld splatter would foul the roller bearings. Bought a replacement at Mepco, so all is good.
