For Sale - Best Offer 3 Dana 44 front axles.

UNSTUCK

But stuck more often.
I have a few dana 44's that I was going to build into one great axle for my TJ. The TJ is now gone and the axles need to go as well. Here's what they are:

1. FSB ready to go. Complete with Cromo shafts. This alone would be an easy upgrade for the cromo's alone if you have a Bronco.

2. Ford 3/4 ton, mostly complete. One hub is bent and no good.

3. Chevy 44 housing with flat top knuckles. I got this one just for the knuckles.

So in a round about way, my plan was to shorten the 3/4 ton housing to TJ width, use the flat tops and then the FSB parts to make a nice axle. It's not all direct swapping, but it's doable. If you like the idea of running cromo's, lockouts, flat tops, and 5 on 5.5, this is a good set up for you. If you can't build it, I could do it for you. We can work out the details.

Anyways, you can have all of these parts for $200. I have pics on my phone if you want me to text them to you.

sounds like you had a cool plan. I wish it would have happened.

tell me some more about the FSB axle.

The FSB axle was a purchase I got on a whim. I didn't know anything about it other then it had 5 on 5.5 and the chromos. I thought all I'd have to do was shorten the long side and put it under my jeep. When the guy brought it to me, I quickly learned about the stupid cast tubes with the wedges on them. I guess the other design used welded on wedges which could have just been cut off. I guess I could have used this axle just the way it was and welded my parts to the cast, but then it would just be ugly. So I did some research and found that the short side is the same (or close enough to the same) length as the 78-79 truck axle. So I found one of those. I got lucky as the one I found had a messed up hub and no shafts, but the housing was good, so I got it cheaper. So yes, it is the 78-79 version with the cast in spring perch and longer short side tube. At about that time, Scott on here posted up the chevy 44 he had that he didn't want. It had the flattops on it so I went up and grabbed it from him.
So with all that I had just about all the parts I needed to make a real nice HP d44. I just needed lower gears and a locker. Oh, and my TJ had an 8.8 in it with wheel spacers to match the front. I was going to build my front the same width then get a conversion spacer to make the rear 5 on 5.5. After all that was done I was going to take my die grinder and just wallow out the bolt holes in my cheap black steel wheels to fit the new bolt pattern.

Just kidding about that last part.

Just depends on what you want to do. The FSB axle is complete right now. If you want to build it the way I had planned, you would need to machine and drill/tap the other chevy knuckle, shorten the long side of the 3/4 ton axle if you want your finished axle to be shorter then full width and to use the chromo shafts, install a locker and match the gears to your rear axle, if not 4.10's. Then what ever rebuild parts you want that you run across in the build....bearings, ball joints, ect...Then making all the parts work together...a bit tricky, but doable.

I'm heading south to Santaquin today and may have a trailer to put these on. If you want them call or text me and I'll drop them on my way.
