Redneck actually refers to someone who during the Depression was a field worker. Because they spent most of their time stooped over the back of their neck would get extremely sun burnt. It was actually somewhat of an endearing term because it typically meant that you had a job and where able to provide for your family. Only after the 60's did it become synonymous with uneducated/unsophisticated. During the 60's it usually referred to someone who was fond of the old ways and resisted change and thus was not 'hip' so popular culture has taken that to mean anyone who is not what they deem to be 'progressive'.Desert Dino said:FWIW....
"redneck" origanally was from the south, the "good 'ole boy", usually had a custom-tailered sheet 'an hood in the closet.
I think (IMHO) nowdays, it refers to someone that's on the wild side, usually powered by Budweiser, not paying much attention to rules or laws.
