4wd Issues

So, I'm driving into work this morning with the 4wd engaged (4 hi). About half way to work, on the freeway, it comes out of gear and I hear this loud grinding kind of noise. This isn't the first time this has happened either.

Once I got to work, I tested it out to make sure I didn't screw anything up. 4 lo works great but I had to go into 4 lo before I could get 4 hi to engage.

My question is: is this normal for a Wrangler?

Normal, no. Most likely a shift linkage issue--do you have a body lift, or a transfer case lowering kit? (or both)

I've got a 4" Pro-Crap lift but that's about it.

Transmission is 4.0 litre 6 cylinder.

No body lift just a regular suspension lift.

And yes, I do have a transfer case lowering kit.

I'm with I lean...sounds like a linkage issue or possibly due to a loose lowering kit allowing the t-case to torque to one side knocking the lever out.
