5 Mile Pass Area

Yesterday a group of us went out and did Rattlesnake and Constrictor and had a great time, but I couldn't believe all the trash that was left out on the trails. Beer cans, water bottles and other garbage. I filled the back of my Jeep picking it up to haul out. Do the trails really not mean that much to us? Do you not think they can't be shut down? This goes for all trails, not just the 5 mile pass area, but all our trails. If we continue to abuse what we have been given, the environmentalists will gain more control and shut us out!!! Sorry, this is just my soap box, but please everyone help out and pack your garbage out and if you see it on the trail, take the time to pick it up. Let’s all help ourselves keep the trails we have and not add fuel to the fire.

You're preaching to the Choir here bro, most everyone on RME takes 5MP very seriously and cleans up each and every time they go out there. Thanks for doing your part and bringing this up, it's sick how quickly it gets trashed. The idiots think that just because they are in the desert, they can just leave their garbage on the ground.

I'm not sure if the rock stacking is even helping(not saying you did stack) I feel that an unstable base could make it scary fast while trottling up a waterfall. It looks like non capable rigs have been up there trying to make it through. I personally enjoy Rattlesnake and don't feel the need to do constrictor(in my Scrambler). I would think that this thread should have been started:

"I can't believe all the trash and rock stacking at 5mp."

Rock stacking doesn't hurt the trail in anyway. If there were no rock stacking, only vehicles with huge tires would be able to get through the trail. The problem comes when the vehicles with inexperienced drivers get on an obstacle and try and crawl it knowing there is no chance of making it, but scared of bumping. This digs big holes at the base of the obstacle, so you need bigger and bigger tires or a winch to make it through. Just because someone fills in those holes with rocks doesn't mean they have incapable rigs, but maybe they run a more normal size tire. Rocks are easily thrown out if you don't what them or thrown in if you would like to fill in the hole from the guys who are not the best wheelers. :)

i agree with hardline moving rocks about cant hurt anything its less damaging to the trail, and no diff then gathering rocks for a fire pit or to mark a camping spot turn off

Sorry, let me clarify something before a lot of people get upset. Filling in a hole with a few rocks does nothing to change a trail for everyone else, but spending hours gathering rocks and making a bridge on an obstacle (Like the Eagles Nest) just so you can say you made it unassisted, is wrong!! That changes the trail for everyone else!!! The same goes for hooking your winch onto something and moving it out of the way, or making the trail wider by driving around obstacles. Basically, if you are permanently changing the trail, you are in the wrong. I couldn't believe all the rocks stacked at the base of the Eagles Nest. Someone spent a lot of time building that bridge.

Mixed feeling on rock stacking.. Why dumb the obstacles down from their original state? Is that fair to the other rigs who enjoy an actual hard obstacle in northern Utah?

Proper trail ettiquete says to move the rocks back once you have used them.. Years of rock stacking lead to a much easier obstacle than it once was.. Case in point: Eagles Nest.

Thanks for picking up the trash. It makes me sad to see the rock stacking at the eagles nest, especially when it's easier to just take the winch, and keeps the trail more to its original state. I do know it's been stacked like that for at least a couple weeks though

Like everyone else thanks for the picking up the trash out there. A couple of years ago I reported a flipped over car out there that someone had dragged around and made a mess of things. Some people from pirate 4x4 along with the BLM took care of it.

Looks like you guys had a good time out there otherwise. I don't think I'd take my 4runner though those area's that you all did.

Some people from Pirate? Can you clarify this further? RME members have dragged more than a few cars out of 5MP on multiple occasions while working with the BLM, nobody from Pirate has that I'm aware of.
