If you're not part of U4WDA, USA-ALL, BRC, etc etc, or all of them at once, you're failing to understand that it's important. Are there issues with any of those groups? Sure are! So what? That's life.
The fact of the matter is though, those are the groups we've got. We do no have some awesome supergroup that is funded like the Sierra Club. We do not have celebrity mouthpieces to help us. We have a smattering of committed retards like yourselves that try and get things done without much support.
Anyone want their favorite trails closed? Yeah, me neither. So pony up, ya lazy bastards! Pay your.. what, like $50 a year for all the memberships? Go to the trail rides, read the forums, write a letter or two! It's not that much to ask.
In case anyone's wondering why this thread? I got a call from NY telling me that one of my favorite mountain bike trails back there got shut down. When I asked why the advocacy group that used to be there didnt' stop it, I was told they had disbanded. City council voted with ZERO opposition to shut it down.
Anyway, it made me angry thinking about how little an awful lot of wheelers actually do. I just got all the U4 member magazines mailed out, and it's not a big list. That ought to be unacceptable to anyone reading this! You know who you are! And who you aren't! It's under $20 to make some difference, damnit. We spend more than that at McDonald's.
And for those that would say, "I dont' need to belong to anything to make a difference, I do my own projects"-- Thank you for what you do. But that's not the point. The point is that no one knows you do those projects. And this is entirely an image war at this point. Not many SUWA members hit the trails, either, but guess what, they write letters, send money to their lawyers, and so on. Ever see a USA-ALL sticker? I dont' know what they look like. But I recognize the Sierra Club. United we might stand, divided it's so easy to knock us over.
Anyway. I'm pissed off about NY. I dont' want that happening here!
