88 Allegro needs help.!

My big trip tow rig is a 35' Allegro motor home with a 460/C6. I love the home part but hate the motor part. I get 6-7MPG and drop down to about 20 MPH uphill with a load. Then there is the fact that it is old and keeps breaking down. I am ready to pump it up! So should I go used diesel or new gas combo. Anyone have anything ready to sell or a good line on some thing?

So are you upgrading to a new (at least to you) motorhome, or thinking about a conversion for the Allegro?
My father in law has a Pace Arrow with a swapped in Isuzu turbo diesel. It has a C-6 behind it. It is only 25Ft, but consistently pulls down 12-13 mpg. He just bought a 26Ft enclosed trailer and has only pulled it once, and I haven't heard if the new trailer effected the mileage. So if you like the Allegro well enough, it may be worth the time and $ to convert.
