I just bought a really nice 93 country edition xj tonight. Only thing wrong is the a/c isnt working it blows a little cold but very little and i used the word very sparingly. The owner said it worked great last year and just kept getting warmer and now it dont work. So here is the catch... The compressor kicks on just fine so there has to be pressure in it right? but it just stays on and runs and runs and runs never clicks off like a normal compressor and i know this isnt normal. It runs the r12 freon and i was thinking maybe it needed a charge and was going to convert it over to 134 but if dont want to drain the system if it is full. Im just trying to figure out what would cause the compressor not to kick off and on and if this has anything to do with it not cooling?? i know nothing about ac and i dont have the money to have it looked at but this heat is awful without ac:( any help please??? maybe bad condenser? plugged lines?? heck i dont know a thing or where to even look. or maybe it does need a top off and converting it to 134 would fix it?? i prefer to keep r12 if it is full i hear it works better?

go to the zone or even walmart and get a check and fill kit, super easy to check how much refrigerant is in the system and adding cans is cake too. or do what i do in my 93 country, roll down the windows :D
in my experience xj's hate the utah heat as it is and a/c makes it worse. add a tranny cooler and p/s cooler and they really get pissed if the condenser is still in there blocking more air flow... just speaking from my experience. a/c is neato but yeah

AC is a must when it is 90+ outside and you have 2 babies in the backseat. And me in the front:rofl::rofl: You get me in a car without ac in anything over 65* outside and its best you dont ride with me:rofl:

i was going to say do you mean three babies haha you beat me to it. my babies (dogs) stick their heads out the windows so they don't care :D

charge it up and hope you don't have a leak. even if you have to charge it once a summer it's not very expensive or difficult at all

there you go, or just add in some 134. it's not like you're working on a benz or something :D

I don't think you can get R12 at any of the stores any more. I have a few spare cans if you just need to top it off.

Uh, sooo.....you have a couple cans huh?:p Mine works, but I'm sure it's low......after a while it clicks off. Fan will still cycle, but the compressor won't lock in.
