I have a 93 YJ that I pulled a 4 cylinder out with the intention of putting a larger engine in. I have heard that in the state of Utah that I need to put an engine in that is 93 or newer in order to keep it street legal. Does anyone know if this true?

State law says that you can put any engine in the vehicle that was a factory option and be able to run emissions at any shop.

If you put a different engine in than factory option you must put an equal year or newer and ALL sensors and emissions parts. THEN you MUST take it to the state emissions shop and have them visually check and pass all parts are there and then pass the emissions for that engine type.

I think you have to go to the state shop every year if you do a non factory swap but not sure on that.

OR register it in a non emission county.......

YJ_AUZZY says the 4.0L inline6 is was the only factory option. OR you can come to Sevier county where there is no emissions YET.

Yes and no on the 4.0L being the other option from factory but not only.
Factory options were the 2.5L 4banger and the 4.0L straight six.
