Ford '94 Ford IDI-T engine shop

I've got a '94 Ford IDI turbo diesel that needs some attention.
The engine has low compression, oil consumption and probably leaky head gaskets.

Are there any recommendations for a knowledgeable shop that is still willing to take on a possible IDI rebuild?


I am in Davis County.

Try Egan Auto in Kaysville. They may not tackle the rebuild, but they should be able to point you to a good shop.

Has anyone ever used or heard anything about them? Carl, their head machinest has been with them for 40 years and knew about the 'ol IDI when I spoke to him on the phone.

Anyone have a lead on a rebuildable 7.3 IDI-T engine?

That doesn't sound good.... Worth finding a wrecked intercooled PowerStroke and swapping that in place or better to just keep the IDI?

I have certainly thought about it. The PSD is a great engine but I can't make the ROI jingle.

A 12 valve would be the ultimate for me but for the time being I just want this old girl up and making noise again so IDI it is...assuming I can find one to build.

I know where there's a 6.9, but I haven't seen any 7.3s around here. I'll be pulling mine eventually in favor of an Isuzu 4HK1 out of an NPR, but it'll be a bit before I can afford that.
The IDI can be sleeved, if the bores are excessively worn.
