95 ZJ? Look at the wiring where it goes into the drivers door. VERY common problem is the wires into the harness are just a TAD short and stretch over time. And break. To make matters worse, that harness is out of production and NOT available anywhere. And they were over $300 before they disappeared.
When I got my 95 ZJ, I didn't know this, and I didn't know the wiring had already been hacked once. I hack/fixed it twice, and decided I need a better fix. But first, here is how to take that apart to look at it.
Open the door, Unclip the plastic clip that holds the bellows to the door and push it back a bit. You ought to see one or more wires broken. If you are lucky, there will be enough to slide a butt connector in and crimp. A little good news, the door can be pulled off with 4 10mm bolts at the hinges. It won't mess with alignment. (Good time to replace the hinge pins if they are worn!) The wiring harness comes off the door with a T20 torx fitting. With the door off, there is more room to work on it.
Yes, I used the door hing location to bolt up a mirror. And hope its warm enough this weekend to run doorless, after I figure out a way to keep the interior lights off.
I went to a junkyard and got a door harness, only to find it was broken as well. Before summer hits, I intend to use that other chunk of harness to make a 2" extended harness that I will cut off the original connector and splice this one in. Solder the wires and weather pack heatshrink and done. I hope. The connector comes apart if you unclip the gray center piece. You can pull an individual wire through that and add some wire for the broken wires.
Hope this helps...
