96xj I6 and transmision into a 93xj

I am trying to finish up my 93 cherokees transmision and motor swap. I dropped a 96's motor and trans with 120,000miles into it. I changed the oil preassure sensor and the temp sensor at the back of the block top driver side. In doing so the gage in the dash slowly starts to peg out saying it is over heating. The electric fan kicks on but only after it has pegged on the hot side.

Another question I have is there a way to fix the cable from the transmision to the throttle body without replacing the entire cable? sometime during the swap (prob when removing the motor from the 96) the plastic end broke. I cliped off one from a salvage yard. I am hoping wrather then drop the pan on the transmision I could kink the wire end with someithing? any thoughts I would appreciate!!!

Some things to look at:
Did you use the temp sender from your old motor or use one from the junk yard ? If you used a sender from a jeep with an idiot light dash indicator it would act weird.
Did you install the ground strap on the back of the engine ?
Maybe you have an air pocket in the engine and need to burp the coolant system.
I would think if you could get a good crimp on the end of the down shift cable you could just swap the end.

Hey Dave!!!

No I bought a new sensor from AutoZone. I am not sure what dash cluster it had (when I bought the jeep it didn’t have a dash cluster) but I am using the one I bought from you awhile back. Yup I did reinstall the ground strap.

How do you burp the cooling system?

That is what I was thinking on the kick down cable. But I had read a little on NAXJA that a guy might have to replace the entire cable. That would suck because then you have to drop the pan on the tranny, and fish the end out, then string a new cable in.

there is a difference in the sender vs sensor deal like dave was saying. if you got the one for the idiot lights it will not read correctly because it is just made to tell you when the crap hits the fan so to speak. i stand by my original statement that there is a bubble.
take the radiator cap off, make sure the coolant is topped off and that the reservoir is filled to the correct level as well. start the jeep and let it idle and you should see air bubbles come out of the radiator and the level will go down. you can help it out by squeezing the upper radiator hose, that will force the bubbles out. it even helps to do this with the front of the jeep higher than the rest so you can park on a hill or put it on ramps etc... once the coolant level just keeps rising and there are no more bubbles put the cap back on. i usually run it for a few minutes longer, shut it off, let it cool and then check the levels again.
also check the that the thermostat is opening and that the heater core isn't clogged by letting it warm up and feeling what hoses are hot.

I think the heater core is clogged because the hoses going to the back of the engine compartment are all getting hot but the one coming out from the fire wall stays cold. That being said is that a reason why motor would be over heating? How do I unclog it now?
