'98 Taco Brake Booster Clearance Issues

So i put a brake booster out of a '98 v6 Taco into my '85 4runner... everything was fine and dandy until i turned the steering wheel. The steering linkage right up against the firewall, diagnal to and below the booster, hits just enough to not allow a full turn.

here's my question: does anyone know the inner workings of that particular booster? and if so, would i be able to clearance it with a 1/2" dent or so?

i was hesitant to do it when the problem arrose, so i thought i'd post up on afew pbb's before doing it...

close... for anyone who wants to upgrade they're stock brake booster, get one out of a 2nd gen v6 4runner(apparently no clearance issues at all), or get the 98ish booster out of a v6 Tacoma like i did... the steering linkage rubbed just enough to not get a full turn, so i stuck a huge screwdriver in there and bent the lip closest to the firewall in about 1/4" or just less... worked great. after i bleed the brakes tonight or tomorrow morning, i'll let you all know if there's a big difference in my brakes.. ask anyone who got near them, they sucked...

what i did. should work good. helps a lot to push the brake equalizer thing (forgot its name doh!) up towards your bed. I put a long extension bracket where it attaches to the axle for mine.

normally this senses if you have a load in the back so that it applies more pressure to the back brakes the closer the bed gets to the axle.

i looked for one on my rear end, couldn't locate it... i don't think i have one...

It'll be mounted to the bottom of the bed (or maybe the frame) on the passenger side, above the axle/behind the fuel tank.

i'll check it out tomorrow... when i looked i was told to look on the rear axle housing... no wonder i didn't find it.

just remembered its called a proportioning valve, like I lean says behind the fuel tank. from there a metal rod extends over and attached to the drivers side of the rear diff. That is unless someone cut it off. I would imagine the valve is still there even if its been cut.

Hey now I was trying to tell you to find the mechanism (on the housing) and then trace it up... not my fault.

Is a LSPV, load sensing proportioning valve... if yours isn't there it was likely removed by the PO?

If you don't have a LSPV you should invest in a manual adjust brake proportioning valve. I purchased one from Wilwood.
