A date with my sister says you cant figure this out!

Is there a reason to jump to the conclusion that it's in the tranny?
Had the same symptoms in my bros XJ, at random speeds, after hitting a bump, etc. Vibes got so bad that it was nearly uncontrollable, pulled over and stopped, vibes were gone when starting out again. Turned out to be good ol' death wobble.
Try driving around with a passenger, and/or a co-vehicle. When the vibes start stick head out window and observe front end...Wheels may be 'jumping' back and forth, or anything else moving for that matter...

Just my thoughts...But if I'm right, I could go for some good food and football, oh, and the model with cheerleader friends sounds nice too :greg:

It sounds to me like you're all a bunch of pinion nuts. But then we are talking about a bunch of cheerleaders in a hot tub aren't we? What was the question again?

You have spun a bearing in the case. Most likely the input which usually makes the worst vibration when it spins in the case but could be the output. I doubt it is a countershaft bearing. The other possibility is the pilot bearing spinning at times in the end of the crank but this would only vibrate when you release the clutch so I bet on the input bearing.

Man, I thought this thread was sooooo dead!!! Um, I will have to get that pic posted sometime soon; as for the problem. . . .As soon as I took the top and doors off, I could HEAR where the vibration was coming from. Turns out it was a bad locking hub. WHODATHUNKIT???
