I've recently regained interest in riding my quad... my old tires were very tired with 4300 miles on them including a lot on asphalt and a LOT of spinning.
They were still extremely fun though, slicks + 800 twin = lots of drifting fun
But it was getting hard to keep air in them, and dealing with flat tires is a quick way to make you lose interest in a ride, especially if you are going by yourself so there is no one to keep you motivated.
Since my fav tire, the Goodyear Rawhide Grip is no longer available, I'd been planning on buying some Maxxis Bighorns. Well a week or so ago I went for a ride with a friend of mine, he was raving about the Duro copy of the Bighorn that he has on his Magnum 500. He said he likes them better hands down over the Bighorns that he has on his Bombardier, and that they are significantly cheaper. Win win? Not quite, I despise buying stuff that isn't make in the USA. Unfortunately these tires are a LOT cheaper. Something like $170 cheaper for the set
Well, I'll just hide my head in shame
I ran down to Rockymountain ATV picked up a set and got them mounted up.
I was leery of buying a radial tire as everyone I've been around will fold under on fast and hard cornering (the way I always ride).
These pics are from my second ride on the new tires, I am so far quite happy with them. They ride awesome, don't seem to have a problem standing up, seem to take a beating well and do pretty good in rock. I've yet to have them in a low traction situation though.
Forest Lake poser shot
Pine Chickens on the way up MEG
The wash out on the connecting road has gotten worse, but someone has done a lot of work on it
Just above that the road has collapsed into the tunnel again, being a little smarter in my old age, I resisted laying on the front rack and driving up this (since it was a big wall from where I was already on a steep hill)
Rode around to the cabin, unfortunately people have been breaking windows
Here's a couple of the deer I saw on my way to the top
Sitting at the slide just before the top. People have been across it on quads now, I'm still not going to.
I went from there up into Mineral a bit. It had been getting pretty cold since about mid MEG and I had no jacket so I turned around at the rock garden
Back to the truck with 4 round biscuits. Yeahs!
(yes I know my stickers are expired, I renewed online and don't have the new ones yet)
