Ok, took her down to Tunex in Draper to have a look at it. 4 hours later ;) they tell me there is a blockage, probably from a sealant agent in the expansion valve.

I know the valve is in the cooling unit behind the glove box.

Has anyone ever done this and is it terrible difficult?

I have the FSM, but don't want to get in over my head starting it then run into trouble.

He did the evac and recharge because he determined that there was too much pressure in the system.

After they had evac and recharged the line, that the line froze over where the ports are on the line, suggesting that the blockage was in the expansion valve.

(Work being done on a 2000 Toyota Tacoma v6 5spd)

I took our jeep to tunex when I couldn't figure out our A/C problem.. They said I needed new compressor, lines and dryer.. only $1400 to fix it. I took it to big o in Sandy, They routed the serpentine belt the correct way (wrong when I bought it, not wrong because of me) and problem solved..

For the tech savvy people: When I replace the expansion valve and the drier receiver, will all I need to to is give it a new recharge?

I just wanted to see if there was anything else special I needed to do or if just a recharge is enough.

Thanks for the help.

A/C isn't necissarily difficult it just has to be done right.
Basically replace the required parts and the cheap standard ones while you're in there... orifice tube/thermal expansion valve, receiver/dryer, compressor if bad, leaking lines whatver. Use new and appropriate o-rings (not rubber). Always flush a used system out and do a vacuum leak down test before charging with freon unless you like to gamble.

Ya, I will be replacing the expansion valve and the receiver drier. Had not thought about the o rings however. I will make sure to get some new ones. I wonder if I should replace the pressure switch while im in there?

Thank you for the input mikegyver
