Fortunately they didn't take anyone else with them. Yes, not wearing seatbelts is a sad thing since it is so easy.

The scary thing to me is how many people tow, be it double towing, over/unbalaced loads, excessive speed etc is that they leave no margine of error.

Sure, many double tow and most make it without accident, but it is a huge gamble to run on the edge of safety.

This is why I STAY AWAY from guys towing double like this!I don't car what anybody says it is NOT safe!!!!I use to flat tow my jeep behind my 2500 ram.You could feel it dragging and pushing.

Semis pull doubles a million miles a day. Of course, they have 5th wheel setups with the wheels of the front trailer on the absolute rear of the trailer, which makes a HUGE difference in that trailer's ability to control the next. Towing doubles is safe if done properly.

Flat towing can also be done safely. The towing vehicle must have a heavily loaded rear axle, either through cargo or just being a rear-heavy vehicle. The tow bar must not be mounted lower on the towed vehicle than the towing vehicle. This would cause the towed vehicle to lift the rear of the towing vehicle under braking conditions. The towed vehicle must also have proper caster to follow the towing vehicle. For added safety, a braking system should be used on the towed vehicle. Such systems do exist.
