AF Canyon has a little bit of everything. It is mostly easy to moderate. There are tons of dirt roads and several trails with obstacles. Do a search there are tons of photos and trip reports. This winter has added on some more excitement to the trails.

Getting There... Take the I15 to the Alpine Exit. Head East and you will be on the road to AF Canyon. There are trails all over the canyon but the Tibble Fork area seems to be the most popular with the off road crowd.

AF Canyon is big! Can't just say how hard it is....It's got way more than a couple trails.....
That being said, the last trails I ran up there was the Mineral Basin trail and the Forest Lake Trail. MB trail is basically a rock garden, some tough spots, but pretty much designated by your line. FL trail is way eroded, and REALLY wet!! There is mud, rocks, water, and a whole lotta fun! I definately reccomend trying this trail, great fun. Not for a stocker :D

The creek crossing is still deep. It was above the door sills on my Rubi. The trail was actually really dry and had really fine dust.

Here are some pictures from last friday.

Forest Lake

I went to Forest Lake on Saturday with Jay5.9L. He had no problems.

I have an Xterra with BFG AT's, about 1 " lift (longer shackles and t-bar crank) and open differentials.

I nearly overheated in the rocky area. Also, I had trouble in a couple of other spots due to the open diffs but with some trial and error I made it.

It was a lot of fun and it was really dry, hot and dusty.

Me and some friends did Forest Lake also last saturday it was alot of fun. We did the trial in a stock Ford Explorer and a stock XJ. It took a little love in a few spots but we did it just fine. I took my full size blazer up there and i was lucky there wasnt any one comeing down the trail it is a narrow trail.

Hey John, I'm the guy in the gray wrangler that was coming down the trail when you had your hood up. Did you find out the problem? Did you get any damage or anything on the trail? I've got a friend with an '05 Xterra that's nervous about dragging his undercarriage up that trail. Any problems? He'll have the factory locker in the rear, so that will help.

Hey Devin,

Thanks for offering to help on Saturday :). Everything worked out ok... my temp got high in that area, probably because we were sitting on the trail with the engine running, AC full blast, and it was, well, really hot that day  . After sitting for a while and running the heater, I didn't have any more heat problems.

As far as an '05 Xterra making it up, I doubt he would have any problems. The rear locker will be a big help. There are some spots where he may hit his rocker panels if not careful. I forgot to mention that I have rock sliders and I tagged a few rocks with them. Still, since he has a locker he can probably pick better lines than I could with the open diffs :) .

Haha, I was running hot that day too......220 from the mouth of the canyon to Forest Lake, for the most part. Except when I parked in the stream and splashed water into my radiator, then it went down to 200. Nice running into you guys.

If you want to have a good time in AF, plan on Sept 9&10. The Utah 4 Wheel Drive Assoc is having their summmer convention in the canyon. It is a full day of fun wheeling and ends with a killer Texas style BBQ. Info here: www.u4wda.org

Plus it will be 30 degrees cooler by then....sheesh!

Will you be up again on Saturday? I may make a marathon day out of it and get the summer convention planning out of the way.
