Rockslide

I rode my streetbike up the dirt road going towards Forest Lake on Tuesday night.

I went between the boulders blocking the road (the spot where the ATV's are allowed through) and took the dirt road all the way (about 2 miles) up to the rockslide blocking the path.

So, as of tuesday night, still a no-go.

So is it closed due to the rock slide? I went up and they have it blocked but ATVs can get through. If it is a rock slide keeping it closed (if its not to big) lets organise a RME Clean up event to get it OPEN!!

Rock Slide

Yeah, I'm told that the rockslide is the reason for it being closed. Either way, its definately impassible (for people with my level of bravery :p ).

I don't know if they would allow others to take care of it but that would be cool. I'd love to roll some boulders over the cliff down to the river.

An ATV could make it past the rock slide. In fact, something narrow with a short wheelbase like a YJ/TJ could probably make it as well.

Either way, I hope we (or whoever) can get those rocks out soon. I didn't even know all these trails existed until a few weeks ago.

We (the U4WDA) have been corresponding with the USFS regarding exactly this, however they are busy with the lower canyon water/flooding and don't expect to get to the rockslide until it is dry up there. (the area affected by the rockslide). It could be a week, could be less, could be more. I will have out contact follow up with the project.

The concern with this, and the reason that they would not let clubs just go up there and start shifting things around right now is simple. The rock clide is holding portions of the hill behind it in place. You have to wait until it drys out so that they can be sure that pulling the rock out would not just cause more of the hill to come down on top of them. Given all of the rain we have been getting, I am sure that the hill is fairly saturated, and thus I should expect a good few weeks of dry before they will get after it.

Cheers

All downhill from here
Went up the Mineral Basin trail today to the snow slide. After a bit of hammering we got through. Stopped at the Bog Mine, could have went a little farther, but we ran out of time.

Here are a few pics from saturday. It was my first time there so I don't know any of the names or where we were going. Removed a lot of downed trees, did the best we could without a winch to get them out of the trail.

I think that is the snow bank that took my front licence plate. Because I had it earlier in the day. It also eat my fender, had to do some trail body work to get my door open.

good times

If anyone finds a colorado plate, its mine.
