Well, I couldn't stay away from the lure of snow wheelin today. I wasn't going to go if I couldn't find anyone to join me, but as the day dragged on I had to go up the canyon. So I did.... by myself. Stupid, I know... I got into a couple areas where I knew I'd better turn around right there or I'd be spending the night when I got stuck.

I went up Forest Lake first, then towards Mineral Basin, then over the summit towards Heber. I made it to Forest Lake no problem with around 12-14" of snow. I only got about a mile past the Rockgarden and the snow was getting deep enough to worry me. The road to Heber wasn't too bad, untill when I nearly reached the peak. Even the 4wheeler tracks turned around... again, about 12-14" of snow.

Here's the pics... :)

Anyone want to go tomorrow? :D I'll start an upcoming trips thread.
I would totally go tomorrow, but I need to change the gears in my front end. And do the ball joints. Looks awesome though.

Nice picts Greg

Thanks for sharing, that looks like a nice enough trail, does it get to some hard points at all? That is, I realize it is harder in the snow, but still.

My prob with snow is that I am locked full time in the front, so, it gets REALLY slick for me! haha

Cheers

You bet, it was a good time. So good that I'm going again tomorrow!!

Some points, yeah it can be hard... most of the difficulty was due to slippery rocks. Being locked might cause you to slide around a little more, but there are plenty of spots where being locked would be helpful. Unlock 1 hub, ;)

Looks awesome! Wish I was there, G, I'd go w/ya in a heartbeat. I miss all those Sunday drives up AF Canyon! Are you going to cut those plastic fender flares off to give you a bit more tire clearance? Just curious.

I have never heard anyone say that before, would that work? I mean, would the hub that is still locked keep pulling? Cause that is not a bad idea at all for driving on the streets in the snow as well if the one would keep pulling...

The unlocked side will act as a sort of anchor, to keep you from sliding sideways.

Thanks! :)

Yeah, no RME stickers... pathetic, huh?

I let somone know where I was headed, but they don't have a rig to rescue me if I needed it.

Wow! I shoulda gone there instead of to our property...there was only a couple inches. I took my burb instead of the jeep, so it was ok...was hoping for more and would have gone back with the jeep. When are they going to close the gate?

Though I've long heard the horror stories, I've never needed to unlock one hub in the snow. Rather, I LOVE being locked up in the snow. If it gets that bad, I put on chains. (damn, the smiley won't work)

That looks like a awesome trail, and you have some good pics. Where is this trail at?

Thanks...

The pics are from a couple diffrent trails, all up American Fork Canyon in Utah Valley. AFC is an incredible place any time of year.
