AGR Box

My good buddy Kurt scored me a AGR box and I would like to be able to ID the box before I install it. I have been on the AGR website and none of the numbers they list are located on this box :ugh:

If the box has a low ratio I would like to install it on the Cruiser, in not I would like to place it on the Commando.

Anyone know how I can tell?
Thought about counting the revaluation, but wasn't sure...

1) What does AGR stand for? I'm actually not kidding. What is an AGR box?

2) Have you tried putting any of those numbers just into google? You may find some posts on other boards that may help.

Shawn, count the revolutions and I can tell ya what your dealing with in relation to other boxes. As a comparison, count the revolutions you get from your current box on the Cruiser. :)

What shaft to count? The input I guess....

Good Idea on comparing the turning count.

ps,

Anyone have any good ideas on how to remove the pitman arm? I have had to cut the last few off.
I have tried heat,
lube,
a puller...

Unfortunately, we have to remove 'em all the time. The best method is to use a puller with an impact to keep things straight (non-binding), crtank it down as much as you dare (pullers are fairly easy to break as you probably know), then take the impact gun off and hammer the end of the puller hex head, tighten some more, then repeat. If this isn't getting you anywhere, beat on the pitman downward (away from the box) while the puller is still under pressure. 90% of the time you'll win.

One last thing. People often figure that using heat (torch or propane) might loosen 'em up, and it could possibly help. However, theres a good chance that they fry the sector shaft seals too. Not the end of the world, but if the box doesn't leak and isn't showing any sign of wear, it kinda sucks having to replace those parts. Just a thought...

pulling the pitman, I do what Von said, but I smack the pitman itself, right where it surrounds the splines. you don't have to hit it very hard. It works every time for me.

Soak it with 'PB Blaster' a day or 2 before you try pull it. I've had success with this stuff & the puller/hammer/tapping method & no heat.

Is this like a WD40 kinda stuff?
Never heard of it..

yeah, kinda like WD-40...I have been amazed by it...if you soak the things enough ahead of time they usually come right off (I've used it many time on suspension bolts and such and always worked)...you can get it at any parts store...

It's pretty common stuff. More common than I thought. You can get it at any autoparts store. The label looks like a bad infomercial.

-Earl (wonders if there are any good infomercials)
