Air/hydraulic tube bender

I found this guy on ebay and went to his web site. He designed and engineered his own Air/hydraulic tube bender and then made plans for it using CAD. He sells these plans for $17.99 which I found very reasonable. His feedback on ebay is all positive and he also has pictures of benders his customers built on his web site. He said the bender can be built for as little as $200 (based on material prices in 2004). I haven't bought the plans yet but I plan to as soon as he gets me a paypal payment address. Has anyone here ever made one or have experience with one?

I built this exact bender. He has modified this a couple of times to improve it and use the air/hydro. I really like mine. I have mine on casters and it is easy to move around the garage. I upgraded my arm to use 3/4"x 3" flat stock and beef it up a little. I had to do a little grinding on the pin but that is all. It will use all the pro tool 105 dies, square, pipe, and tube.

Was it cheaper than a pro tools bender? It was a little cheaper, but if you find some scrap metal or have some lying around it is worth it.

Here is a link with a lot of good information on the Tackacs bender: http://pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=376183

Once you get a bender there is two things that you will also need. One is a good digital angle finder and the other is a plane of bend bracket (POB). They make bending with a vertical bender a piece of cake. Captain Fab on OFN offroad fabrication network makes a nice POB.

yea, I think that my jd2 bender was only about $200 or so and then another $75 to set it up for Air/hydraulic. I spent another grad on dies. The dies are the expensive part of any bender. For me it wasn't worth the hassle to make my own bender.

I built one a while ago. Not sure how to link the thread? But if you search (Home built hydro tube kinker) you can see how it turned out and I think there might be a parts list.
