Amazing SawStop Cuts Anything But Your Fingers

Yeah, very cool. I read about this thing in an article in Inc. magazine almost 2 years ago. The guy has been trying to get the manufacturers to pick it up for a while, but there is a huge resistance in the industry to implement it. He's even tested it out on his own hand.

 Would you do it?

Sure I would, I just wouldn't touch the sharp cutty parts of the blade. Just touch the smooth side of the spinning blade enough to disturb the electrical doohickamajiger, then the dealio would think it's cutting soft tissue and do it's thing. Blammo, instant 3-saw sale.

Wonder if it damages anything in the saw when it stops it? Doesn't really matter compared to a finger, just curious....

Looks like it destroys the aluminum "brake". I wonder what consumables cost. Does it require a special blade?

I pretty sure you have to replace the whole brake and sensor unit. Its a one time shot. It's expensive but i have been doing cabinets for 3 years and have only seen one thumb taken off with a table saw and its gotta be cheaper than paying the hospital and the guys bills. We had one guys finger explode when it got clipped in a moulder!:ugh::eek: It just clipped his middle knuckle and it looked like his knuckle exploded but the tip and hand was normal. So for the money and saving that guys finger i'm sure its worth it. That guy who cut his finger cant ever use a thumb, cant hold onto a handlebar the same, etc etc.
